Baxter moved to ''The Sunday Times'' following an appointment as editor of the News Review section, a post in which she remained for four years. From July 2001 Baxter was based in New York. Despite being a lifelong Labour Party voter and registered Democrat in the United States, she advocated support for George W. Bush over John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election: "I will be one of the millions voting for Bush because I trust the president’s judgment on the war on terror more than Kerry’s. In this election, I am a single-issue voter."〔 She became the Washington correspondent of ''The Sunday Times'' in 2005,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Sarah Baxter )〕 before returning to London in 2009 to become editor of the newspaper's magazine, which she edited until September 2015. In June 2013, she was appointed the deputy editor of ''The Sunday Times'' and is a non-executive director of Times Newspapers Holdings Ltd.〔
